Season Three: Body

In season three, Clary is shown to save the people she loves and to be saved by them. Before looking at this, one should remember that, Clary saves Jace Herondale with a wish to, Raziel is season two, episode twenty, “Beside Still Water.” Yet, while the wish saved him, she learns that it made him vulnerable to Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.05). Furthermore, Clary learns this after she summons, Ithuriel, with the help of Luke Garroway and Sister Cleophas (Shadowhunters: 3.05, 3.06, 3.07). From there, Clary embarks on a journey to find a way to save Jace, who has been fully possessed by Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.05, 3.06, 3.07). While trying to find a way to save him, she ends up being hurt by Jace when he throws her off of a roof (Shadowhunters: 3.07).
After Clary is hurt, she calls her friend, Simon Lewis, who comes to help her (Shadowhunters: 3.07). Once Clary is healed and back at the New York Institute, she tells Simon, Alec and Isabelle Lightwood and Magnus Bane about the wish she made to Raziel (Shadowhunters: 2.20, 3.07). Alec, who is Head of the New York Institute, is supposed to hand Clary over to the Clave, because she used the wish against the Clave’s orders (Shadowhunters: 2.13, 3.07).
Despite what Alec is supposed to do, he instead hugs Clary, and tells her that he “would’ve done the same thing” (Shadowhunters: 3.07).  Furthermore, Alec and Isabelle, make sure that the Inquisitor, Imogen Herondale, and Jia Penhallow do not know that Clary used the wish when they go to Idris to rescue Jace who has gone their on Lilith's orders and retrieve the Malachi Configuration to trap him in (Shadowhunters: 3.07). Once they have completed those tasks, Clary creates a portal and sends Jace, Alec and Isabelle to Magnus’ apartment, after the Clave learning about their unsanctioned mission (Shadowhunters: 3.07). After saving her friends, Clary is arrested by members of the Clave (Shadowhunters: 3.07).
Shortly after Clary's arrest, Alec, Isabelle, Luke and Maryse Lightwood try to find out information on her, but are unsuccessful (Shadowhunters: 3.09, 3.10). Meanwhile, Jace who is still possessed by Lilith, kidnaps Clary from the Clave (Shadowhunters: 3.09). Before this however, Clary has been sentenced to death by Jia, who has learned about her wish to, Raziel (Shadowhunters: 3.08). Additionally, Clary at Jia’s request, brings Valentine Morgenstern back to life, with a Necromancy rune she created (Shadowhunters: 3.09). Also, Clary questions Valentine about Jonathan Morgenstern, and then kills him when he attempts to escape (Shadowhunters: 3.09).
Jace, who now has Clary, takes her to Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.10). Lilith then marks Clary, with a Twinning rune and Jonathan is brought back to life (Shadowhunters: 3.10). Meanwhile, Alec and Magnus, try to free Jace and Isabelle and Luke, work to contain Lilith’s disciples that she has also possessed (Shadowhunters: 3.10). While this is happening, Simon arrives at Lilith’s apartment to save Clary and banishes Lilith to Edom with the Mark of Cain which in turn destroys Lilith's apartment (Shadowhunters: 3.10). Jace, whom Magnus has freed from Lilith’s possession, then arrives at the remains of the apartment and learns from Simon that Clary is supposedly dead (Shadowhunters: 3.10).
However, Clary has been taken by a revived Jonathan who now has control of Lilith's apartment, which is an inter-dimensional domicilethat survived the blast from the Mark of Cain, and she tries unsuccessfully to escape from him (Shadowhunters: 3.11). Later, when she and Jonathan go to Paris and wander the streets, she steals a stele to make another attempt to escape (Shadowhunters: 3.12). Upon the stele being reported as being stolen at the Paris Institute, Alec learns about it and finds out that it was stolen by a young woman whom he, Jace and Luke believe to be Clary (Shadowhunters: 3.12). In addition, they believe this once they discover that Lilith's apartment is an inter-dimensional domicile and as a result Clary may have survived (Shadowhunters: 3.12).

This in turn, leads to Jace, Luke and Alec finding and rescuing her (Shadowhunters: 3.12). After Clary is rescued, Jace, Alec, Isabelle, Simon and Magnus, research ways of destroying the Twinning Rune which binds her to Jonathan when she tells them what happened to her (Shadowhunters: 3.12). Eventually, Isabelle learns that Heavenly Fire can be used to destroy the rune (Shadowhunters: 3.18). Additionally, Isabelle only realizes this after she, Jace, Simon, Clary and a vampire called Cain, who was previously revealed to Simon to be Cain from The Bible, summon and question Lilith and capture Jonathan (Shadowhunters: 3.12, 3.16). Also, Isabelle later sends Simon to investigate the Clave and acquire a few bottles of Heavenly Fire serum that they have (Shadowhunter: 3.17).
Once Clary agrees to use the serum and she, Jace, Alec, Luke and Isabelle, go to Jonathan’s cell and inject him with the Heavenly Fire serum (Shadowhunters: 3.18). Yet, the serum does not work, due to it not being strong enough (Shadowhunters: 3.18). Shortly after the serum fails, the Twinning rune takes full control of Clary and she joins Jonathan (Shadowhunters: 3.19). Despite this, Clary’s bond with Jonathan is broken, after she is stabbed by Jace, with a sword that Isabelle made from the leftover serum, which consists of pure Heavenly Fire (Shadowhunters: 3.19, 3.20). Once the bond is broken, Jonathan goes to Idris to open a rift and a passage to Edom with the Morgenstern Sword (Shadowhunters: 3.20). Clary, Isabelle, Alec and Jace then go to Idris to stop Jonathan and Magnus meets them there and proposes to Alec (Shadowhunters: 3.20). After the proposal, Magnus ends up going to Edom and becoming trapped, when he closes the rift that Jonathan has created (Shadowhunters: 3.20).
Back at the New York Institute, Clary creates an Alliance rune that will allow Shadowhunters and Downworlders to share traits, including demon blood (Shadowhunters: 3.21).  Furthermore, the sharing of demon blood, will allow a Shadowhunter to survive in Edom, due to the fact that their angelic blood does not allow them to survive in a demonic realm (Shadowhunters: 3.21). After creating the rune and using it, Clary, Simon, Meliorn, Alec, Isabelle and Lorenzo Rey, go to rescue Magnus, from Edom and a banished Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.21). Once they are successful, they return back to New York where Jonathan is waiting for revenge (Shadowhunters: 3.22). Clary then decides to go confront Jonathan on her own and uses a rune that she creates, but does not name (Shadowhunters: 3.22). This rune gives her white wings, which she wraps around Jonathan, who now has black wings and he dies (Shadowhunters: 3.22).
Before this, however, Clary receives a visit by Jocelyn in spirit form (Shadowhunters: 3.22). Jocelyn tells Clary that she is there to give her a message from Raziel, who is upset at the Necromancy and Alliance runes that Clary has created (Shadowhunters: 3.22). The message from, Raziel to Clary, is that she is “not to draw another rune of your [her] own ever again. If you do [she does] as quick as they gave you your [Clary her] gifts, they will take them away” (Shadowhunters: 3.22). As previously stated, Clary uses her gifts to stop Jonathan anyway (Shadowhunters: 3.22). Clary does this, because Jonathan has threatened all of her friends' lives (Shadowhunters: 3.22). Yet, by using rune power- Clary sacrifices herself (Shadowhunters: 3.22).  Once she has defeated Jonathan, her runes start to disappear (Shadowhunters: 3.22). Finally, after attending Alec and Magnus’ wedding, she leaves the New York Institute and loses all of her memories of the Shadow World and her friends who have become her family (Shadowhunters: 3.22).
Clary is shown to save the people she cares about. For instance, when she saves Jace, when she is arrested in her friend’s place in Idris and sends them away by portal, when she comes up with a way to save Magnus from Edom with the Alliance rune and saves all of her friends from Jonathan by sacrificing herself (Shadowhunters: 2.20, 3.05, 3.06, 3.07, 3.08, 3.21, 3.22). With that said, Clary is also shown to be saved by her friends, who have become her family, when they refuse to tell the Clave about her wish and try to learn what has happened to her when she is arrested, when they try to save her when she is taken by Jace and Lilith, then later when she is taken by Jonathan, and finally, when they help her to break the Twinning rune (Shadowhunters: 2.20, 3.07, 3.09, 3.10, 3.11,3.12, 3.16, 3.17, 3.18, 3.19). Furthermore, in both cases, it is love and the acceptance, that allows for her to save her friends by making the ultimate sacrifice and earlier, for her friends to save her.

Season Three: Body

Jace and Alec are shown to be there for each other at various times during this season. An example is when Alec talks with Jace, about Jace possibly having mental issues (Shadowhunters: 3.04). The reason Alec speaks with Jace, is because Jace keeps waking up in places and not remembering how he got there (Shadowhunters: 3.04). However, Alec, Magnus Bane, Isabelle Lightwood and Clary Fairchild, later learn that Jace has been possessed by Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.07). Once they discover this, they are determined to free him from Lilith’s demonic possession (Shadowhunters: 3.07).
Yet, they are not sure where Jace is and search for him (Shadowhunters: 3.07). Eventually, Alec, Isabelle and Clary are able to track Jace down in Idris (Shadowhunters: 3.07). They then go on an unsanctioned mission to retrieve Jace, and the Malachi Configuration to trap him in (Shadowhunter: 3.07). Additionally, once they have captured Jace, they are close to being captured by the Clave and Clary creates a portal and sends Alec, Isabelle and Jace to Magnus’ apartment (Shadowhunters: 3.07). After this, she is arrested by members of the Clave (Shadowhunters: 3.07).
With Magnus' help, Alec and Isabelle enter Jace’s mind to free him from Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.08). In Jace’s mind, Alec finds him in a room filled with dead Clary’s (Shadowhunters: 3.08). Furthermore, it is revealed by Jace that Lilith has made him kill fictional Clary’s, as part of her torture methods on his psych (Shadowhunters: 3.08). Once Alec has heard that and has walked over to Jace, he hugs him and then, Isabelle arrives (Shadowhunters: 3.08). Jace then says to Alec, “I need you to kill me” (Shadowhunters: 3.08) and both Alec and Isabelle refuse (Shadowhunters: 3.08). They all then hold hands and Magnus pulls them out, but shortly after this, Lilith captures and repossesses Jace (Shadowhunters: 3.08). Alec later goes after Jace to fulfill Jace's wish for Alec to kill him, and as a result, gets stabbed in the chest by his Parabatai (Shadowhunters: 3.08, 3.10). Magnus then arrives, frees Jace with his magic and helps Alec (Shadowhunters: 3.10).  After Jace is free, he learns that Clary is supposedly dead, and that Simon Lewis has banished Lilith to Edom with the Mark of Cain (Shadowhunters: 3.10).
Once Alec is back on his feet, he learns that Jace has tried to commit suicide, due to being upset over, Clary (Shadowhunters: 3.11). He then confronts Jace and says, “If I lost you, I’d be lost too” (Shadowhunters: 3.11) and Jace apologizes (Shadowhunters: 3.11). Alec then says, “If you ever feel like this, you have to come to me. Okay? Talk to me” (Shadowhunters: 3.11) and Jace agrees (Shadowhunter: 3.11). Soon after this, Jace and Luke Garroway, learn that Clary is alive and being held captive by Jonathan Morgenstern (Shadowhunters: 3.12). In addition, Jonathan is alive because Lilith has revived by binding him to Clary with a Twinning rune (Shadowhunters: 3.10). Jace and Luke go to rescue, Clary, with Alec’s help (Shadowhunters: 3.12). Once they have rescued her, they all return to the New York Institute (Shadowhunters: 3.12).
Later in the season, after Clary has been taken by Jonathan, Jace confronts Alec, when he feels that something is wrong through their bond (Shadowhunters: 3.19). Furthermore, Jace asks about Magnus and Alec replies, “Sometimes life doesn’t go the way you want it too” (Shadowhunters: 3.19), in reference to his and Magnus’ breakup (Shadowhunters: 3.18, 3.19). Once Alec has said this, he tells Jace to leave and to get Clary (Shadowhunters: 3.19). Eventually, Jace, Alec and Isabelle are able to rescue Clary (Shadowhunters: 3.20).
They all then go to Idris, to stop Jonathan, who has opened a rift and passage to Edom using the Morgenstern Sword (Shadowhunters: 3.20). While there, Magnus, who has learned about Alec's deal with Asmodeus to get get his "magic and immortality back" (Shadowhunters: 3.18), shows up and proposes to Alec (Shadowhunters: 3.20). Alec accepts, and Magnus then chooses to go to Edom to close a rift that Jonathan has created (Shadowhunters: 3.20). Upon seeing Magnus leave, Alec breaks down (Shadowhunters: 3.20). During his breakdown, Jace is there for him and stays by his side (Shadowhunters: 3.20). Jace then goes with Alec, Clary, Isabelle, Meliorn, Simon Lewis and Lorenzo Rey, to rescue Magnus, from Edom and a banished Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.21).
For the duration of this season, Jace and Alec are there for each other and fight for each other no matter what obstacle stands in their way. This is shown, when Alec tries to free Jace from Lilith’s control and when he tries to fulfill Jace’s wish for Alec to kill him (Shadowhunters: 3.08, 3.10). Furthermore, Alec confronts Jace after he attempts to commit suicide and makes sure Jace knows that he can always come to him (Shadowhunters: 3.11). Additionally, Jace is there for Alec through his breakup with Magnus and when Alec wants to go rescue Magnus (Shadowhunters: 3.18, 3.19, 3.20, 3.21). All in all, it can be seen that Jace and Alec, are always their for one another no matter the circumstance.

Season Three: Body

For this season, Magnus and Alec learn just how far they would go for each other and what they would do and give up to protect one another. This is prevalent from the very beginning, when Magnus sees Alec struggle over the fact that Jace Herondale is having some mental health issues and tells him that they will “make it through this” (Shadowhunters: 3.04). However, they later learn that Jace has been fully possessed by Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.07). This happens after Magnus meets Lilith, who has claimed to be a friend of Ragnor Fell when he does not recognize her, and he gives her a potion that would make the drinker fall out of love when a piece of the person's lover’s soul is used (Shadowhunters: 3.05). Lilith in turn, uses this on Jace after getting a part of Clary Fairchild's soul and allows her to gain full control of him (Shadowhunters: 3.05, 3.07).

Once Magnus learns that he gave Lilith the potion and Clary has revealed that she saved Jace with a wish to, Raziel, he speaks with Alec (Shadowhunters: 3.06, 3.07). During their conversation, Magnus blames himself and tells Alec, “I will fix it. I will use the last drop of my power if it’s the death of me” (Shadowhunters: 3.07). Shortly after this conversation, Alec, Clary and Isabelle Lightwood, track Jace down in Idris and go on an unsanctioned mission to retrieve him and the Malachi Configuration to trap him in (Shadowhunter: 3.07). Additionally, they are all almost arrested, but Clary choses to create a portal and sends Alec, Isabelle and Jace to Magnus’ apartment and instead, she is arrested by members of the Clave (Shadowhunters: 3.07).

Upon their arrival, Magnus tells Alec that he can send him and Isabelle into Jace’s mind, in order to release Jace from Lilith’s possession (Shadowhunters: 3.08). Furthermore, he warns Alec and then Isabelle, of the risks that they could be possessed by Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.08). Despite the warning, they wave the risk, and Magnus tells them that if they are together, he can bring them out of Jace’s mind (Shadowhunters: 3.08). They all attempt the ritual and are successful, but Lilith arrives and retakes control of Jace (Shadowhunters: 3.08). This in turn, leads to Alec confiding in Magnus that Jace asked him to “kill him” (Shadowhunters: 3.09) and that he was “too selfish to listen” (Shadowhunters: 3.09). Magnus then tells Alec that he may be able to “obtain enough power to cure” (Shadowhunters: 3.09) Jace, if he contacts his father, Asmodeus (Shadowhunters: 3.09).

Shortly after this, Magnus travels to Edom and agrees to Asmodeus' terms, to stop Alec from having to kill his Parabatai (Shadowhunters: 3.08, 3.09, 3.10). The terms are that he will have his Asmodeus’ magic long enough to free Jace of Lilith’s control and after that, his magic becomes the property of his father (Shadowhunters: 3.10). He then returns to New York, to find that Alec has been stabbed in the chest by his Parabatai and uses his magic to save Jace (Shadowhunters: 3.10). After checking on Alec, Jace leaves and finds that Lilith has been banished to Edom by Simon Lewis with the Mark of Cain and that Clary is supposedly dead (Shadowhunters: 3.10).

The bargain that Magnus made to save Alec, is later replicated by Alec to save Magnus, when he feels lost without his magic (Shadowhunters: 3.18). During this time, Magnus has a failed magic transfer from Lorenzo Rey that nearly kills him and he has a breakdown over the loss of his magic, right before Alec proposes to him (Shadowhunters: 3.15, 3.16, 3.17). After the breakdown, Alec becomes very concerned and has Asmodeus summoned through a séance (Shadowhunters: 3.18).

When Asmodeus arrives, he agrees to return Magnus’ "magic and his immortality" (Shadowhunters: 3.18). However, there is a catch- Alec must, “break his [Magnus’] heart, to save his life” (Shadowhunters: 3.18). Furthermore, if Alec agrees, he can never tell Magnus about the bargain (Shadowhunters: 3.18). Alec then leaves the séance and decides that their break up is the only way to save Magnus (Shadowhunters: 3.18).

He then goes to break up with Magnus and Magnus says, “stay with me” (Shadowhunters: 3.18). Despite Magnus asking, Alec’s response is, “I can’t. I’m sorry” (Shadowhunters: 3.18). Soon after this, Magnus gets his "magic and immortality back" (Shadowhunters: 3.18) and Asmodeus arrives (Shadowhunters: 3.19). Eventually, Maryse, who has overcome her prejudices about Downworlders and Magnus, learns what Alec has done (Shadowhunters: 3.20). From there, she proceeds to tell Magnus the truth (Shadowhunters: 3.20).

After this, Magnus then knocks his father out and sends him into a portal, effectively sending Asmodeus into a state of limbo (Shadowhunters: 3.20). He then goes and proposes to Alec who, along with Isabelle, Clary and Jace are in Idris (Shadowhunters: 3.20). They are there because they are fighting, Jonathan Morgenstern (Shadowhunters: 3.20). In addition, Lilith revived Jonathan, by linking him to Clary with a Twinning rune, which has now been removed by Jace (Shadowhunters: 3.10, 3.20). Alec accepts the proposal, but Magnus then goes to Edom to close a rift that Jonathon has opened using the Morgenstern Sword (Shadowhunters: 3.20). Alec, Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Simon, Meliorn and Lorenzo, then go to Edom and rescue Magnus from being stuck there and a banished Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.21, 3.22). After he has been rescued, he and Alec get married (Shadowhunters: 3.22).

Magnus and Alec are both shown to be there for one another at different times. This is shown, when Magnus is there for Alec, during the situation with a possessed Jace (Shadowhunters: 3.04, 3.05, 3.06, 3.07, 3.08, 3.09, 3.10). Additionally, another example, is when Alec is there for Magnus through the loss of his magic and rescuing him from Edom and Lilith (Shadowhunters: 3.15, 3.16, 3.17). Furthermore, they are also shown as willing to sacrifice something that makes them happy for the others well-being. For instance, when Magnus agrees to Asmodeus terms to save Alec’s Parabatai (Shadowhunters: 3.10) and when Alec makes a bargain with Asmodeus to get Magnus’ "magic and his immortality back" (Shadowhunters: 3.18). By both of them being there for one other and sacrificing for one other, it shows how much they love and accept one another.
