Connections
Jace believed for a time that he was the son of Michael Wayland. However, Wayland was actually Valentine Morgenstern in disguise (Shadowhunters: 1.11). Upon Valentine as Wayland, faking his death, Jace was sent to live with the Lightwoods (Shadowhunters: 1.11). Therefore, Jace is the adoptive son of Maryse and Robert Lightwood (Shadowhunters: 1.01, 1.05, 1.06). He is also the adoptive brother of Alec, Isabelle and Max Lightwood (Shadowhunters: 1.01,1.05,1.06), as well as the Parabatai of Alec (Shadowhunters: 1.01,1.03). Additionally, Jace learned from Valentine that he was Imogen Herondale’s grandson and Stephen and Céline Herondale were his parents (Shadowhunters: 2.12).
Also, Jace is an associate of Simon Lewis (Shadowhunters: 1.01). Furthermore, he is the friend and brother- in- law of Magnus Bane (Shadowhunters: 1.04, 3.22). Jace is also the former lover of Kaelie (Shadowhunters: 2.07) and Maia Roberts (Shadowhunters: 2.13). Finally, he is also the former lover of Clary Fairchild (Shadowhunters: 1.07, 3.22).
Background
Jace is a Shadowhunter and a former Head of the at the New York Institute (Shadowhunters: 1.01, 2.13). Also, from his time being raised by Valentine, Jace learned that, “To love is to destroy” (Shadowhunters: 1.11, 2.04). Thus, for Jace, “Emotions and connections are still a weakness, and humor is the way he tries to keep his distance from things out there – demon or otherwise- that might hurt him” (Peterfreund 43). With that said, Jace still show his love for his adoptive siblings, adoptive parents, friends and Clary throughout all of the Shadowhunters seasons.
Abilities
• The Sight, the ability for hand-to-hand combat and the ability to fight with weapons, specifically, a seraph blade (Shadowhunters: 1.01).
• Parabatai bond with Alec Lightwood (Shadowhunters: 1.01,1.03, 2.03). This bond allows him to share, “emotions, instincts, strength” (Shadowhunters: 2.03).
• Like Clary, Valentine gave Jace pure angel blood and a blood connection to Ithuriel when he experimented on him (Shadowhunters: 2.10). Jace’s pure angel blood allows him to activate his runes without the use of his stele (Shadowhunters: 2.16).
• Jace is able to play the piano (Shadowhunters: 2.14).
