The title of this poem was inspired by William Shakespeare's quote from Hamlet in act three, scene two, line twenty-five, "To hold, as 'twere, the mirror up to nature." When writing this poem, I noticed that there were essentially two sides of the world: the side that is "full of hate and anger" and the side that is filled with hope and love. My poem joins these two sides of the world with the lines, "You see a world that has both love and hate/You see a world with hope, but failing to have it/You see a world that desperately wants peace, but doesn’t understand that/History forgotten equals History repeated." Finally, the poem closes with the line, "Here is your world. You must find your way in it." The part "Here is your world" showcases that this poem is, as Shakespeare would say a, "mirror up to nature." The latter part of the line, "You must find your way in it," is a tribute to a DC Comics character known as Kate Kane, aka Batwoman, who once said, "You find a way to not break" in the Elseworlds Crossover featured on The CW.
